The Australian Institute of Sport was officially opened on Australia Day in 1981.

The Australian Institute of Sport welcomes George Gregan back to Canberra, with the opening of a GG espresso in The Visitors Centre. Owned by George and Erica Gregan; this is the first venture outside of New South Wales for GG espresso.
Specialising in great tasting coffee and quality food, GG espresso caters to athletes, staff and visitors to the Australian Institute of Sport for breakfast through until 4.30pm each weekday and 4pm on the weekends. The café will also stay open later on speciality occasions and private events.
The menu focuses on light, tasty meals and snacks including gourmet burgers and sandwiches, seasonal salads and fresh bakery items. Wine by the glass or bottle, as well as beer, tea and juices are also available.Allpress coffee is served in all GG espresso bars and will continue to be stocked in their growing portfolio.
